Every evening on my home I pass a large fence at the side of the road that always has a large banner fixed to it – it’s ideal for outdoor banner printing. It’s often changed, but I’d never before seen anyone removing the old one and putting up a new one, but last night I did. The new banner was approx 30ft wide by 6ft tall, and there were 2 chaps fitting the new banner to the fence. The vinyl banner printing was advertising a local scrapyard and was very nicely designed. I pulled over and had a chat with them. It turns out that they own the field that the fence goes round, and that they rent the space on the fence for anyone that wants to put a banner there. They wouldn’t tell me how much they charged but I bet it wouldn’t have taken much pressing to get them to part with that piece of information. They said that they had a waiting list of customers now, but when they started they simply placed an “Advertise HERE” banner on the fence with a telephone number on it and they soon got enquiries (they also had a website from website design manchester). The customers supply the banner and as part of the rental agreement these guys for the banner for free. I guess this means that they have peace of mind knowing that it’s fixed safely and no damage is going to be caused to the fence. I asked where the customers get their banners from – was there a particular banner maker that everyone used? Turns out that most customers have their own banner printer that they like to use, so each one is probably made in a different place. The banner last night had been designed and made by Aura Print in Huddersfield and I must say that it looked pretty great to me. After I talked to them I sat in the car while I took a phone call and I watched them fix the banner into place. It was quite a windy evening, but they looked well practiced and before very long the banner was zip-tied into place and looked very secure indeed. There are thousands of cars that pass the banner every day and that’s really got to be of benefit to the scrap yard that owns it. That number of impressions per day will surely build up awareness and lead to more trade, which I guess is the aim of the game. I think if I see the fitters again I will be asking them how much the rental space costs! When printing a banner, this is just what you need!
